2021 Copa America

The thrill of an upcoming football tournament is always so surreal, and one of such tournaments is a few days away from kicking off in the beautiful country of Brazil; the 2021 Copa America is finally here. It was originally scheduled to take place in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic hit South America and the rest of the world, and the tournament had to be postponed till 2021. The postponement was in line with the decision by UEFA to postpone and reschedule the UEFA Euro 2020 till 2021. The 47^th edition of the Copa America is organized by CONMEBOL, the ruling body responsible for football tournaments in South America. The game will commence on 13^th June, 2021, and will run through till 10^th July, 2021.

It may interest you to know that Colombia was supposed to co-host the tournament, however, the country was removed as co-host on 20th May, 2021. Argentina was supposed to host the tournament too, but they were pulled out of the tournament, and that is due the fact that there are still serious Covid-19 issues to be dealt with in the country. Argentina was removed from the tournament on 30th May, 2021. The United States also bid to host the tournament, but the bid was rejected.

The opening ceremony of the tournament will take place at the Mane Garrincha, while the final match is scheduled for 10^th July, 2021, at the Estadio do Maracana, Rio de Janeiro.
